What should I bring for my first day at my new internship?

The number one thing is a lunch and snacks. Going into an internship, you don't know the lunch situation or if it will be easy to go buy something, so it's always safest to bring a lunch on the first day. Also bringing some snacks can be good in case they don't have a kitchen with food. Nothing worse than being stuck at work and starving.
Bring ID, a lunch from home, some pens, and a notebook. You'll likely be given a cubicle or desk to work at with a computer so you don't need to worry about that. Bringing a lunch on the first day is a good precaution as while some internship supervisors may treat their intern to lunch on the first day, it's not guaranteed; plus, you may not know for sure that there will be a cafeteria or food nearby or that you'll have time to leave work and go get lunch. You don't want to be hungry so be sure to bring your own lunch and some snacks! Additionally, bringing a sweater is a smart idea as lots of workplaces put the AC on high in the summer and it can get cold! Any other things you might need you can bring the next day once you have a better idea of what you'd like to have or what would be useful at work.
I would say bring pencils, pens, highlighters, passport (for tax forms purposes for HR), a notebook, a planner, a phone charger, some snacks, cash for lunch, a big bottle of water, and headphones. I say headphones because the first day of many internships involves sitting at your desk doing nothing. Most internships give out laptops and/or desktop computers, so there is no need to bring a computer.
Normally, if you need any specific items for your internship, they will let you know before your first day. However, as a general rule of thumb, it's not a bad idea to bring a notebook and a pen/pencil, as you're likely going to be over a lot of information, some of which you may need to jot down. Also, be sure to dress professionally and you may want to bring a lunch/snack with you, depending on the hours you'll be working.

As far as intangible items go, bring a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Don't close yourself off to new experiences - volunteer for whatever projects you can, actively listen at all times and work hard, even that first day. Odds are, your manager is going to take notice, and you may be able to leverage this into a full-time opportunity.
